Del Rey pioneered the Slow Streets Program in the spring of 2020 to help residents stay safer at home and in the neighborhood during the COVID-19 emergency. The idea was to reduce traffic volume on some neighborhood streets by limiting use to local residents, pedestrians and bicyclists. Since then, the program has been implemented in other communities.
The City has been considering making the program permanent, and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) has been revamping what the Slow Streets installation would look like; see below for examples. Contact the DRNC Board (board@delreync.org) for questions and comments.
